Domaine De L’austral
Domaine De L’austral is known for its commitment to traditional winemaking techniques and its dedication to producing wines that truly capture the essence of the terroir. Each bottle is a testament to the craftsmanship and expertise of the winemakers, resulting in wines that are both elegant and full of character.
Laurent, hailing from the Alps, and Pauline, from Brittany, crossed paths at engineering school. While Laurent pursued land surveying and Pauline delved into plastic and materials engineering, they felt unfulfilled tied to computer screens in France. Their journey led them to Australia, where they immersed themselves in farm life and winemaking along the west coast, sparking their love for wine and inspiring the name L'Austral. Pauline's enology studies in Burgundy coincided with Laurent's seasons as a ski and sailing instructor, financing their dream. A chance encounter with Mélaric during Pauline's internship led to a connection with Françoise and Philippe Gourdon in Le Puy-Notre-Dame, who offered vine leases. Now cultivating parcels Amandiers, 253, and Vigneaux, their wines reflect the region's Tuffeau-laden soil and distinctive architecture. Shielded by the Mauges hills, Saumur experiences a continental climate, with Le Puy averaging less than 200mm/year rainfall, nurturing an extended growing season for optimal ripeness.
When you explore our collection of Domaine De L’austral wines, you will be transported to the vineyards of the Rhône Valley, where the grapes are carefully nurtured and harvested at their peak of ripeness. The unique combination of soil, climate, and winemaking practices gives these wines a distinct personality that is truly unforgettable.
